Putin on Immigrants to Russia
This entry was posted in Immigration. Bookmark the permalink.
Putin is definitely the best leader in Europe.
Sadly, not much of a compliment.
True, apart from Putin, Lukašenko and maybe Orban and Ansip, the vast majority of other European leaders are (to be polite) complete plonkers.
Changes to Russia’s immigration law have come into effect: https://www.rt.com/russia/590242-major-immigrantion-changes-russia/
That does seem to be an improvement. But… how will they implement it? Often a good law is passed, and then the bureaucracy refuses to implement it as intended. We will see.
Yes, it will be interesting to see how this will work in practice, but what worries me at the moment isn’t the bureaucracy, it is that the article itself isn’t clear about a lot of things, for example what is a “Russian legal entity” for the purposes of this law? Does it apply just to entities founded and headquartered in Russia? Or can you open up a Russian subsidiary of your Georgian company in lets say Rostov, name yourself its director with an 1840 USD salary and get this visa? Does that stupid law passed in 2021 that requires foreigners apart from Belarusians to do medical exams on their own expense every 3 months apply to foreigners who immigrate through this new system? Then the article mentions that “A residence permit can now be granted to highly skilled specialists without any limitations if they have worked legally in Russia for two years.”, but it doesn’t make clear if this permit you can get after 2 years is the vid na žiteljstvo visa (which is basically the Russian equivalent of an American Green Card), which is required if you want to apply for Russian citizenship, or if this is a new and separate visa? Etc.
Indeed, lots of questions.
It would seem that many of the Nagorno-Karabakh Armenians are moving to Russia: https://www.themoscowtimes.com/2024/01/15/a-life-in-one-suitcase-the-karabakh-armenians-who-continued-onward-to-russia-a83728
