Ukraine crisis: Protesters declare Donetsk ‘republic’

‘Pro-Russian protesters who seized the regional government building in the Ukrainian city of Donetsk are reported to have declared a “people’s republic”.’

Well I think it safe to say that the Ukraine may not be the safe and secure place to settle down. Might want to wait until the dust settles so you can figure out which flag to hang outside.

The goal of the “Find a Free Country Project” is to research, explore and find a safe and secure free country outside the USA, that is not too large, has a relatively open immigration policy, has a friendly business climate, has a non-intrusive government committed to freedom, and then move to it.

Ukraine crisis: Kiev defines Russia as ‘aggressor’ state: http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-42741778

It looks like things are heating up again in Ukraine, and sadly no matter how things end militarily, I don’t see a bright future in store for Ukraine, if they again fall to Moscow’s rule, it will be bad, if they fall to Bruxelles’ rule, it will again be bad, and even if they are left to their own devices, Ukraine will continue to be a corrupt mafia state for the considerable future, so sad to see a country with such potential be in such a sorry state.

Yeah, the Ukraine is a text book case study in how NOT to run your country. Sad. It could have been a shining example of success. In 1988 it was one of the richest of the Soviet and Warsar Pact nations. Poland was an impoverished basket case compared to the Ukraine.

Yes, it’s obvious that communism ruined the Ukrainians mentally (and caused serious harm in other ways as well, lets not forget that millions of Ukrainians perished in the Soviet genocide called Holodomor), while the Poles managed to keep their sanity in tact throughout the Soviet occupation and despite Soviet attempts to destroy the Polish intelligentsia (this was common tactic wherever the communists came to power, to kill the local intelligentsia, no that nobody could organize serious opposition to the communist scum and their sick ideas).

If the Ukrainians ever do recover from all of this, it will be in the distant future, so for the purposes of this website Ukraine is a lost cause.

I know a number of Ukrainians and they seem quite sane and normal, but as a nation they have lost their minds. Something about mass hysteria or mass lunacy.

      • Croatian Capitalist says:

You can (probably) find sane and normal people in every nation, but if you don’t actively (at least mentally) resist socialism en masse from the start (like the Poles did), after 70+ years of if, the nation will be mentally ruined on average, like is the case in Ukraine, I mean even in the USA, which still hasn’t had an outright communist government, the mentality of the average person since FDR’s rule has totally gone to waste.

Another reason why the Poles managed to resist, while the Ukrainians didn’t is the fact communism was imposed there by force from foreign occupiers, and those occupiers were the people the Poles hated the most to start with, namely the Russians, while communism in Ukraine wasn’t imposed from the outside, but by domestic people.

It looks like Putin’s legacy won’t only be the political split of Ukraine from Russia, but a cultural split as well.

On a personal level I find Ukrainians very nice and clever, but on a national level they are idiots. I think the Ukrainian government policies since the Maidan Revolution started should be studied with the goal of understand exactly WHAT NOT TO DO! They have acted like childish stupid teenagers, and they have done nothing but harm their own country. Now they are willing to throw away hundreds of years of religious and cultural heritage because they are angry that Putin did exactly what he said he was going to do, and the Europeans did exactly the opposite???? A nation that allows itself to be so stupid does not deserve a future. And to throw away their culture because “Daddy” was mean to them is even more stupid.

      • Croatian Capitalist says:

Well, there is definitely something wrong with the Ukrainian national mentality, by natural potential Ukraine should be one of the richest countries in Europe, while in reality it is the poorest country in the whole of Europe.

        • fafc says:

Yes, I remember reading that when the Soviet Union broke up Ukraine was one of the richest spinnoff nations, and Poland was one of the poorest. The why of that seems pretty obvious to me (wise financial governance, positive investment atmosphere, stable government even if not always agreeable, etc,) but I fear that most people will just look at the enormous amount of free stuff the EU gave to Poland, which is true. But Poland created solid economic and social development programs that were not built on too much fantasy (every national story is just that — a story — and it is not such a bad thing to have those stories — just don’t believe them too much). Compare to what the Ukraine has done, its a disgrace nothing but one meaningless self-inflicted wound after another. Again, I hope that countries like Georgia, Moldava, etc. look very carefully at the Ukraine and do exactly the opposite.

          • Croatian Capitalist says:

Poland has had economic growth in every single quarter since 1992 (and it is the only country in Europe with such a track record), so it was well on it’s way to success way before EU membership and funds become a reality.

As for Ukraine, it really should be put into textbooks as an example not to follow.

I think it would be best for everyone if Ukraine was divided between Poland and Russia, because as things stand it will be a perpetual failed state and point of instability in Europe.
